The 3rd "Childhood Picture Books" Forum was held

Recently, the 3rd "Children's Era Picture Book" Forum and the "China High tech Achievement Picture Book" New Book Launch Conference, guided by the China Welfare Association and hosted by China Zhongfu Publishing House and China Publishing Media Business Daily, were held at the Phoenix Tower Hotel in Beijing to create original and high-quality science popularization books for the new era.

Wu Shulin, Chairman of the China Publishing Association, Hao Zhensheng, President of the China Editorial Society, Chen Chen, Deputy Secretary General of the China Book Critics Society, and Song Zhongbei, member of the Party Group, first level inspector, and Party Secretary of the China Welfare Association, attended the meeting and delivered speeches. Ah Jia, the author, translator, researcher and promoter of children's books, Hai Fei, the former president and chief editor of the China Children's Press and Publication Corporation, Wang Lin, the editor of the People's Education Press and a member of the China Reading 30 Forum, Wang Zhuang, a professor of the School of Journalism and Communication of Beijing Language and Culture University, Zhu Chengliang, a picture book painter and a member of the China Artists Association, and other experts, scholars and writers, including the overall director of the Institute of Micro Satellite Innovation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the author liberation of "Stars in the Sky, Roads on the Earth", participated in the activity and delivered a keynote speech. The second edition of the "Chinese High Tech Achievement Picture Book" was also released on site.

The "China High tech Achievement Picture Book" has currently released two volumes. As a set of science popularization picture books showcasing China's important high-tech achievements, the first volume of the "China High tech Achievement Picture Book" selects high-tech achievements such as the adorable "Fat Five" (Long March 5 carrier rocket), the news hotspot "Tiangong" (China Space Station) that condenses cutting-edge aerospace technology, the culmination of China's science and technology manufacturing industry, the first domestically produced large aircraft C919 that is close to children's lives, and the mysterious deep-sea submersible "Striver"; The second edition of this release selected the Beidou satellite navigation system, which has completed global networking, the Yangshan Deepwater Port, which has achieved intelligent operation, the high-speed rail "Fuxing", which has created China's speed, and the high-tech achievements of China's "infrastructure maniac", represented by six bridges including the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge. Through the expertise and passion of Chinese scientists, picture books provide children with scientific and entertaining science popularization, showcasing China's technological strength from space, land, to the deep sea.

In his speech, Wu Shulin talked about the significant importance of using picture books from both scientific and literary perspectives to educate children on early scientific and literary literacy. It is crucial to create popular science picture books to popularize scientific knowledge, enhance scientific literacy, cultivate scientific spirit, and enable the nation to better establish itself in the world with scientific support. How to better promote the development of original children's reading materials, given the current focus on children's reading? Hao Zhensheng pointed out that editing and publishing more high-quality and excellent reading materials that are in line with socialist core values, in line with children's pursuits, and meet the development of the times requires joint efforts from academia and industry.

Childhood "is the first children's publication in New China founded by one of the founders of the country and honorary president, Soong Ching ling, in 1950. Song Zhongbei pointed out that "Childhood Picture Books" originated from the classic brand of China Zhongfu Press. As the representative of the author, Jiefang shared his creative experience. He said that 'Stars in the Sky, Roads on Earth' is not only to let more big and small readers understand and recognize the Beidou system, but also to bury their love for technology and longing for the future in the hearts of children, and to find their own stars and paths for the future.

At the event, guests held a discussion on "Creating Original and Excellent Children's Books for Science Popularization in the New Era". According to data, as the largest sector in the children's book market, children's science popularization encyclopedias have grown rapidly since 2020, surpassing children's literature for the first time in 2021 and becoming the largest sub sector in the children's book market with the highest proportion of digital content. Haifei, with the title "Spring of Chinese Original Science Popularization Picture Books," pointed out that science popularization picture books need to achieve literary expression of high-tech content, by softening the hard core of high-tech, so that children can understand. Wang Lin shared the reading strategies of popular science picture books and the difficulties of original popular science picture books under the title of "Popular Science Picture Books, Reading Strategies".

Wang Zhuang believes that the humanistic care conveyed by popular science children's books mainly manifests in two aspects: on the one hand, they pay special attention to topics related to human destiny such as nature, environmental protection, and future destiny in terms of themes; On the other hand, while presenting scientific knowledge and telling popular science stories, the humanistic care of science is organically embedded. So, how to find the most suitable illustration art for a picture book? Zhu Chengliang believes that in order to find the artistic concept of picture book creation, one needs to have a good sense of topic selection, long-term experience in illustration creation, and a long-term aesthetic foundation.
